What is a firewall?

A firewall is service that scans all related incoming and outgoing data to aid in allowing acceptable data and disallowing data that does not match set guidelines. We run firewalls at each of our servers. This is used to help safeguard servers against known hacker networks, fraudsters, spammers and other abusers. Our firewalls are also configured to defend against most distributed denial of service attacks.
